PUBLIC NOTICE is given to the electors of Bowen Island Municipality that an election by voting is necessary to elect a Mayor (1), Councillors (6), and Municipal Trustees (2) for the Islands Trust Council, and that the persons nominated as candidates and for whom votes will be received are:

Voting Dates & Locations

GENERAL VOTING will be open to qualified electors of Bowen Island Municipality on:

Saturday, October 15, 2022
between the hours of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM
at Bowen Island Community School, 1041 Mt. Gardner Road, Bowen Island

ADVANCE VOTING will be open to qualified electors of Bowen Island Municipality on:

Wednesday, October 5, 2022
between the hours of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM
at Bowen Island Municipal Hall, 981 Artisan Lane, Bowen Island

MAIL BALLOT VOTING will be available to all qualified electors. Mail ballot packages will be made available as soon as practical after the ballots are received (on or about September 26th). To speed up processing times, submit an Application to Vote by Mail Ballot early. Applications are available on the BIM website and at Municipal Hall during regular business hours.

Mail ballot packages will not be mailed after Friday, October 7th. Electors may request a mail ballot package for pick-up at Municipal Hall up until Friday, October 14th at 4:30 PM.

It is the sole responsibility of the elector to return the completed mail ballot package to the Chief Election Officer or Election Official before the close of voting, Saturday, October 15th at 8:00 PM.

Elector Registration

If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the required application form available at the voting place or in advance of voting at Municipal Hall. To register you must meet the following qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day
  • Canadian citizen
  • resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration
  • registered owner of real property within Bowen Island Municipality for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration (Non-Resident Property Electors only), and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

To register in advance, resident and non-resident property electors must complete the required voter registration form. Forms are available on the BIM website and at Municipal Hall during regular business hours.

To register at the voting place, resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

To register at the voting place, non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the majority of other property owners.
