BIM hires new Chief Administrative Officer, Kirn Dhillon

BOWEN ISLAND, BC – Bowen Island Municipality is pleased to announce the hiring of Kirn Dhillon as the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Dhillon brings over 15 years of experience in the public sector and a strong background in engineering, project management, and local government.

Already familiar with the unique challenges of small, coastal communities, Dhillon will be arriving to Bowen from his most recent role as Director of Engineering and Operations with Sechelt. Previously, Dhillon spent 10 years with the Yukon Territorial Government before moving to local government roles in 2019 and working in Vernon and Sechelt, B.C. Dhillon’s professional journey is marked by significant achievements, including overseeing the delivery of the new Sechelt Operations Centre, partnering with local organizations for active transportation and downtown revitalization projects, and championing strategic long-term infrastructure plans. His work has earned him team awards for engineering excellence and sustainable community initiatives.

Dhillon holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo and is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia. He is also a Program Management Professional (PgMP) certified by the Project Management Institute and a candidate for the Local Government Leadership Development Certificate from Capilano University.

“We’re confident that Dhillon’s extensive experience and innovative approach will be invaluable assets to the community,” said Mayor Andrew Leonard, “His skills are expected to drive forward key initiatives and contribute significantly to the municipality’s growth and improvement.”

“I thank Bowen Island Council for entrusting me with the role of Chief Administrative Officer. It is a profound privilege to provide leadership to the professional and dedicated staff who work for the municipality” said Dhillon. “Over the past years in Sechelt, I have learned to understand the challenges facing coastal communities. Climate change, a growing infrastructure deficit, and housing are critical issues that require innovative approaches that engage the entire community.”

Dhillon begins work at Bowen Island Municipality on September 9, 2024.
