Emergency Support Services Volunteer: Nicolette Eus
My husband and I moved to Bowen Island from downtown Vancouver in early 2020, right at the beginning of Covid. That first winter was a tough transition, and yet, I really found I was falling in love with the Island and the quieter life we were creating. Even while masked, I slowly got to know people over the next two years. We felt welcomed and so lucky to have great neighbours.
We left the city and moved to Bowen to find community. To do that, I needed to be proactive, to go out and meet people. I am not a natural joiner, but have found more and more kind, generous and interesting people through getting involved with community events and groups. I joined ESS in 2023, when they offered an Introductory course through the Justice Institute.
ESS gives me a way to connect with a really great, enthusiastic, caring group of people, to learn new skills, to give back and to feel that I can make a difference in this very special place.
