Project Description
Bowen Island Municipality has received a Development Permit application for a proposed multi-unit residential building at 1033 Miller Road, within the Snug Cove Village Revitalization Development Permit Area. The building is on land owned by the Bowen Island Municipality. The Municipality has entered into an Agreement to Lease the land to the Lookout Housing and Health Society to provide community rental housing. Council is considering the final lease agreement, and has given three readings to a Housing Agreement Bylaw that would regulate rental prices and tenant selection for the building.
The application proposes construction of a three-storey residential building consisting of 24 purpose-built rental units, including 4 studio, 7 one-bedroom, 10 two-bedroom, and 3 three-bedroom apartments. The development includes a landscaped central courtyard, covered bike and scooter parking, and rough-ins for future electric vehicle charging.
This project aims to support the objectives of the Snug Cove Village Revitalization Area by increasing the supply of secure rental housing, contributing to a human-scale village form, and enhancing walkability and accessibility near the Cove and transit.
The proposal is currently under review by municipal staff before being considered by the Advisory Design Panel. This notice will be updated when a meeting date has been set for the Advisory Design Panel. Authority to issue Development Permits has been delegated to the Manager of Planning and Development.
