Community Centre Update

Audiovisual improvements for Council Meetings

Bowen Island Municipality is upgrading the Council Chambers audiovisual system with supplemental funding from the SPARC BC Local Community Accessibility Grant. The project will improve sound, visual, and presentation technology to better support people with hearing, visual, and mobility challenges, as well as enhance accessible livestreaming, captioning, and remote participation. New microphones, screens, and Aurocast compatible audio, including receivers, will be installed to improve sound quality and make presentations and captions easier to see. The project is currently underway, with installation expected in March. These upgrades will improve access to Council and Committee meetings and support broader public use of Council Chambers.

The current audio visual equipment will be repurposed in the smaller Meeting Room as an additional benefit for use by the public for meetings, workshops, and events.

Railings in the Theatre

In addition, the Municipality has ordered removable railings designed for the retractable seating in the new Community Theatre to address safety concerns related to the steep steps. The railings have been confirmed as shipped and are expected to arrive in eastern Canada within four to six weeks, after which they will be transported to Bowen Island. Installation is anticipated by this summer.
