Welcome to Bowen Island Municipality’s Discussions platform! With Discussions, we intend to provide a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for citizens to engage directly with BIM to ask questions, and provide comments and feedback on initiatives that affect you.
By participating in Discussions, we ask that you adhere to the following terms of use to uphold standards of respectful conduct.
1. Be Respectful
Treat all members with kindness and respect. Disagreements are natural, but personal attacks, insults, or harassment of any kind are not tolerated.
2. No Hate Speech or Discrimination
Content that promotes hate, discrimination, or violence based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic is strictly prohibited.
3. Stay On Topic
Keep discussions relevant to the Discussion’s purpose. Off-topic posts or spam will be removed.
4. No Bullying or Harassment
Bullying, intimidation, or harassment of other members is not allowed. This posting private information about others without consent.
5. Use Appropriate Language
Avoid using obscene, vulgar, or offensive language. Content should remain appropriate for a diverse audience.
6. No Misinformation
Do not share false or misleading information. Ensure that any claims or data shared are accurate and verifiable. Do not spread rumours on Discussions.
7. Respect Privacy
Do not post personal or private information about yourself or others. This includes contact details, addresses, or financial information.
8. No Unauthorized Advertising or Self-Promotion
Advertising, solicitation, or promotion of goods, services, or personal projects is not permitted.
9. Follow Moderators’ Instructions
Moderators are here to ensure Discussions run smoothly. Moderators are BIM staff – your local government employees who also may be your friends and neighbours. Please follow their guidance and respect their decisions. If you have concerns about a moderator’s action, address it respectfully and through the appropriate channels.
10. Report Violations
If you witness behavior that violates these terms, report it to the moderators. Do not engage or retaliate against the offending member.
11. Consequences of Violations
Violating these terms may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent banning from Discussions, depending on the severity of the offense.
13. Amendments
These terms may be updated periodically. Continued use of Discussions constitutes acceptance of any updated terms.
