The Bowen Theatre is a versatile theatre space is designed for both professional performances and community events.

Featuring retractable seating, full professional lighting, and an advanced sound system, the Bowen Theatre can transform from an auditorium to an open, multipurpose room. Loading Access

Availability depends on the room you are booking.

  • The facility is open from 6:30 am – 9:00 pm on weekdays and 8:00 am – 6:00 pm on weekends. Although you can book for hours outside of facility hours, it will incur additional charges.
  • Meeting and Conference rooms and the Kitchenette are limited to outside of municipal hours (8:30 am – 4:30 pm) and pre-existing bookings.
  • Flex Room, Fitness Studio, Bowen Theatre are limited to hours outside of pre-existing programming and bookings.

We currently offer short-term rentals only and do not have any leasing space available. Recurring events can be booked, but they must be reserved in seasonal segments (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall). At this time, we are unable to accommodate open-ended recurring bookings.

Booking & Payments

Yes, both a rental deposit and a damage deposit are required at the time of booking.

  • A rental deposit is required at the time of booking and will be held as a credit toward the rental fee.  However, if the outstanding room rental payment is not received in advance of the reservation date, the BICC has the right to cancel the rental, and in that event, the deposit will not be refunded in full or in part.
  • Rental fees of more than $100 are subject to a damage deposit. Damage deposits are equal to 50% of the rental up to $500 and are due when the full rental fee is paid.  All extra fees incurred by the renter during the rental period will be deducted from the damage deposit. 

To secure your booking with only a deposit, a credit card number is required to be kept on file for any remaining balance, which can be paid through a payment plan or at a later date.

If you prefer to pay for your booking in full, you may do so using a credit card, debit card, or by paying cash in person.

Yes!

  • At the time of booking, a rental deposit and damage deposit (if applicable) is required.
  • For the remaining payment, you can:
    • Pay in full at the time of booking
    • Pay in full at a later time
    • Pay in installments
    • Final and full payment is due 14-90 days before the rental period depending on the rental

If the rental is cancelled by the renter with a minimum of 30 days of advance notice of the first day of the rental period, refunds will be given, withholding 15% of the full rental fee for administrative costs. 

Refunds are not available for cancellations with notice of less than 30 days before the first day of the rental period.

There are different rates depending on if you are from Bowen Island or Off-Island, or if you are a Non-Profit Group, Commercial, or Private Renter. Please see full rates chart in “Rental Rate Chart” tab.

Usage Rules

Yes. A Certificate of Liability Insurance detailing a minimum of $5M liability indemnifying BIM is required for all rentals and must be provided it to BICC staff at least one month before the event.

Yes, with certain limitations.

  • Alcohol consumption is not permitted during BICC’s normal operating hours (8am-5pm).
  • BICC staff shall be notified if there is to be any service of alcohol.
  • BICC shall not permit a “bring your own bottle” event.
  • The renter must obtain its own liquor permit and present it to BICC staff at least one month before the event. The permit cannot extend beyond 12:00 a.m. and all liquor must be kept inside the room(s) reserved.
  • The renter shall ensure the appropriate “Serving it Right” certificates are provided by all persons serving food or alcohol and shall post a Special Event permit within the rental room.

Yes! With certain limitations.

  • BICC staff shall be notified if there is to be any service of or food.
  • The renter shall ensure the appropriate “Food service” certificates are provided by all persons serving food or alcohol and shall post a Special Event permit within the rental room.
  • Catering services are not provided by the community centre. You may bring in your own food or hire a catering company to provide food and beverage services at your event. The renter must ensure any catering company shall provide a copy of their current food safe certification.
  • There are no cooking or refrigeration appliances for use within the building.  A propane barbeque or other outdoor cooking is permitted in the courtyard if included in the rental agreement.

Yes! However, you must ensure your decorations do not leave residue or damage.

Tacking, nailing, or drilling is not permitted on any surface within the Centre unless approved by the Facility Manager.  Non-residue adhesive or removable hooks are permitted but must be removed following the event and without damage.  Similarly, confetti and/or glitter are not permitted.

Events that include amplified music or public address are subject to Bowen Island Municipality Noise Control Bylaw No. 108, 2004.  It is the responsibility of the renter to meet all requirements of the bylaw and any exemptions required. 

BICC staff are not able to assist in set up and clean up but will provide appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment.

Yes, as long as they are a certified service animal!

We provide tables and chairs for your event, but additional items such as tableware, glassware, bartending equipment, an ice machine, and table settings are not available.

Yes, there is public Wi-Fi all throughout the building.

Yes, although the parking lot is first-come first-served and is not reservable.

The Community Centre offers 35 parking spaces, including two designated accessible spots and two equipped with Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations for your convenience.

Public and Pay Parking is available around Snug Cove if there is no parking available in the Community Centre. 

Bowen Island Municipality does not provide staff to manage or host events. You will be responsible for securing your own event staffing. However, the Booking Coordinator, Facility Manager, and other relevant staff will work to ensure all necessary arrangements are made prior to your event.
