Property Tax Due Date and Penalties
2025 Property Tax Due Date is July 2, 2025. Please ensure your property taxes are paid and your Home Owner Grant is claimed (if eligible) before the due date to avoid penalties.
Penalties
Any current outstanding balance (including unclaimed Homeowner Grants) on July 3, 2025 will be charged a 10% penalty.
Penalty Legislation
Bowen Island Municipality is mandated to follow the British Columbia Community Charter – Municipal Tax Regulation. The 10% penalty is set by this charter. See the link to the Charter:
Penalties on municipal property taxes are only written off when avoiding the penalty is impossible and the write-off can be fairly applied to all in the same situation. Circumstances such as sickness, travel, bank error and mail strike are not adequate for the write off to be permitted. In each of these cases, another person or method could have been used to ensure that property taxes were paid on time. Please see here for more information.
