Community Centre project moves forward with Council approval

Bowen Island Municipality (BIM) took another step closer towards achieving the dream of a community centre for island residents. On May 14, BIM Council passed a unanimous motion to proceed through to Gate 4 in the phased approval process for the project. The Community Centre project proposes the construction of a public facility that provides a welcoming community living room, recreation and performing art spaces plus municipal offices, to be built on Area 3 of Lot 2 of the Community Lands (east of Bowen Island Community School).

The funds of $155,000 approved for spending in Gate 4 of the project lifecycle will allow the project team to proceed with the Construction Drawings and fundraising efforts.

An architectural partnership between Principal Architecture and local resident Drew Rose of Still Point Architecture are guiding the Community Centre Select Steering Committee through design development, and this next phase will include: preparing the construction drawings, applying for the building permit, developing capital campaign materials, implementing fundraising strategies and carrying out operational planning.

BIM is looking forward to developing a facility that will act as a gathering place for people of all ages and interests in our community, fostering and inspiring connections, wellness, economy and creativity.
