After many years of planning, we look forward to the first dedication of lands for the Art Rennison Nature Park. The lands are part of the watershed surrounding Grafton Lake, our largest drinking water reservoir. An eventual 230 acres will be dedicated and protected in perpetuity. This Park, and the wetlands within it, provide an essential ecosystem service by protecting our drinking water quality. The Park will also provide opportunities for recreation with an improved trail system that circles the Lake.
The Nature Park helps to conserve an extensive greenway, which stretches from Mount Gardner and through the Ecological Reserve. These wildlife corridors are vital to the ecosystem, and provide habitat for our native flora and fauna.
Planning is underway to provide further park amenities including parking and trail maps, and for a celebration of course. We hope to see you this summer, at a grand opening event with all 3 mayors who oversaw the formation of the Park in attendance!
We acknowledge the generosity of the Rennison family for their gift of nature to Bowen Island.
