Happy Asset Management Day from Bowen Island Municipality

Today we take a moment to recognize the work that happens behind the scenes every day: the planning, the investments, and the decisions that keep Bowen Island safe, livable, and resilient for everyone who calls it home.

In 2026, BIM Engineering and Public Works team invested in  17 capital projects across the island, from the pipes beneath our roads to the wharves on our waterfront.

Where is that investment going?

  • 62% is directed to water and utility systems, including completing the Eagle Cliff–Cove Bay water connection, upgrading treatment at Cove Bay, replacing the critical Carter Road watermain, advancing the Snug Cove sewer outfall, and improving water quality across multiple neighbourhoods.
  • 18% is directed to roads, drainage and culverts, tackling aging infrastructure, completing our road condition assessment, and launching a Drainage Master Plan to prepare for the effects of climate change.
  • 11% is directed to marine and waterfront infrastructure, preserving the Snug Cove Wharf through structural pile replacement to maintain safe public access for residents, boaters, and marine responders.
  • 9% is directed to facilities and asset management planning, modernizing our Public Works Yard and building the governance frameworks, risk tools, and condition data that will guide smart infrastructure decisions for years to come.

All of this work is grounded in our Asset Management Policy (25-03), adopted by Council in 2025, and guided by a simple principle: every dollar we invest today is a dollar that protects future generations from higher costs and greater risk.

Asset management isn’t glamorous, but it’s how we keep the ferry running, the taps flowing, and the roads open. It’s how we honour the trust this community places in us.

To our Public Works team, engineering staff, and everyone who keeps Bowen’s infrastructure running day and night, thank you.
