Did you know? The BC Wildlife Act prohibits feeding dangerous wildlife (including bears, cougars, coyotes, and wolves) or leaving attractants accessible that could draw them in.
Leaving food out for deer, birds, raccoons, or other wildlife may seem harmless, but it can attract predators to your property and increase the risk of negative wildlife encounters and wildlife-vehicle collisions.
Wildlife that repeatedly access human food sources can become habituated to people and conditioned to non-natural foods. Over time, these animals are often considered a public safety risk.
Please do your part to help keep Bowen Island safe:
- Do NOT feed wildlife
- Clean up fallen fruit promptly
- Secure bird seed and pet food
- Properly manage garbage, kitchen waste, and compost
- Avoid creating food piles or dumping fruit for wildlife
