Bowen Island Fire Rescue is helping residents protect what matters most with the launch of the HomeSafe Program.

Supported by a donation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms from Kidde Canada, the HomeSafe Program offers free home fire safety inspections and smoke alarm assessments for Bowen Island residents. Residents can register for a free HomeSafe Inspection through the Bowen Island Municipality website. During the inspection, firefighters will review smoke alarm placement and replacement requirements, discuss common fire hazards, provide fire safety tips, and help residents develop or review a home fire escape plan.

Working smoke alarms are one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your family and home from fire. Early warning can provide valuable time to escape safely in an emergency.

If existing smoke alarms are not functioning properly, Bowen Island Fire Rescue may be able to install a new smoke alarm at no cost, subject to program availability. The program is intended to help ensure residents, particularly seniors, families, and other vulnerable community members, have immediate protection while arranging any necessary repairs or upgrades to their alarm systems.

There is no cost for a HomeSafe Inspection, and there are no legal obligations associated with the service. Residents will receive a summary of findings and recommendations for their personal use.

Residents who are unsure whether their smoke alarms are working, sound properly when tested, or have been replaced within the last 10 years are encouraged to request a free HomeSafe Inspection.
