BIM Mayor, Council and CAO are attending the Union of British Columbia Municipalities Convention (UBCM) this week. They’re attending daily workshops and events, and meeting with Ministers and ministerial staff to discuss issues pertinent to Bowen Island.
BIM Mayor and Council, MLA Jordan Sturdy and new BIM CAO Kirn Dhillon, met with Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation Minister Brenda Bailey to discuss inclusion into the Islands Coastal Economic Trust to help fund on island programs and projects.
Mayor & Council, CAO, and MLA Sturdy met with Transportation Minister Rob Fleming. Mayor Leonard discussed changes to BCF operating policies for resident assured loading & enforcement. In addition Council addressed funding shortfalls to complete the Multi-Use Path.
Municipal Affairs Minister Kang addresses UBCM delegates, highlighting successes and acknowledging challenges.
BIM Councilors attended a province wide Community to Community forum. An historic agreement between UBCM and indigenous leaders was signed.
BIM council and CAO regrouping after Small Communities Forum to strategize for upcoming ministerial and agency meetings.
BIM Council & CAO meeting with Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport staff to highlight the dire need for tourism management funding on Bowen Island, given the infrastructure needs and limitations particularly in Snug Cove.
Premier Eby spoke to hundreds of local government electees from all over BC, mentioning provincial pressures and successes, and took questions from the floor.
