Bowen Island HomeSafe Program

Bowen Island Fire Rescue crest-style logo shaped like a black Maltese cross with red, white, and gold trim. The words “BOWEN ISLAND” appear at the top and “FIRE-RESCUE” at the bottom. In the center, a circular emblem shows green hills rising from blue ocean water, a sun emerging behind the hills with golden rays extending across a blue sky, and an orca swimming in the foreground. A red fire hydrant icon appears on the left arm of the cross, and a blue Star of Life emergency medical symbol appears on the right arm.

Protect What Matters Most

Bowen Island Fire Rescue (BIFR) is excited to launch the HomeSafe Program. Supported by a generous donation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms from Kidde Canada, the program will help improve fire safety for Bowen Island residents through free inspections.

A working smoke alarm is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your home and family from fire. Early warning saves lives, giving occupants valuable time to escape safely in the event of a fire.

Through the HomeSafe Program, Bowen Island residents can request a free HomeSafe Inspection and smoke alarm assessment conducted by members of BIFR.

Free HomeSafe Inspection

During a HomeSafe Inspection, members of BIFR will:

  • Check your smoke alarms
  • Review smoke alarm placement and replacement requirements
  • Provide cooking safety recommendations
  • Check for the safe use of electrical devices, including extension cords and power bars
  • Discuss candle, matches and lighter safety
  • Review your home fire escape plan
  • Share general fire and life safety information

There is no cost for a HomeSafe Inspection.

At the end of the inspection, you’ll receive a summary of our findings and recommendations for your personal use. There are no legal obligations associated with the inspection.

Free Smoke Alarm Installation

If your smoke alarms are not working, BIFR will install a new smoke alarm at no cost, subject to program availability.

This service is intended to help ensure residents have immediate protection while arranging any necessary repairs or upgrades to existing hard-wired alarm systems.

BIFR is committed to helping ensure all Bowen Island residents, particularly seniors, families and other vulnerable community members, are protected by functioning smoke alarms.

Smoke Alarms Matter

Ask yourself:

  • Do I have working smoke alarms in my home?
  • Does my smoke alarm sound when I test it?
  • Have my smoke alarms been replaced within the last 10 years?

If you’re unsure of the answer to any of these questions, it’s time to request a HomeSafe Inspection.
