The Municipality will be replacing the old supply main near the Carter Road bridge during the week of August 17, 2026. The tie-in is currently anticipated to take place mid-week, around August 18-19. Specific dates and times have not yet been confirmed. Updates will be provided as scheduling is finalized.
The work will be done overnight to minimize water service interruption to the Cove Bay Water System, particularly for businesses in Snug Cove, during hot, summer days.
This important project replaces an aging, leaking section of pipe and helps prevent an emergency failure that could cause a prolonged loss of water service.
What to expect:
- Night work to reduce daytime impacts; some daytime preparatory activity may occur.
- Temporary water service disruptions or reduced water pressure may occur mid-week between August 17 and 21, 2026. The schedule is subject to change pending completion of preparatory work and the availability of staff and contractors.
- Some noise overnight is likely.
- Temporary road closure at the Carter Road bridge with a detour via Carter Rd → Mt. Gardner Rd.
Although the Municipality is taking steps to avoid any impact on water service, the extent and location of any disruptions cannot be predicted with certainty. Residents and businesses throughout the Cove Bay Water System are therefore asked to be prepared for the possibility of temporary water service interruptions or reduced water pressure during the work.
How you can prepare:
- Store some drinking water for essential needs (cooking, medication, hygiene).
- Fill sinks or containers for toilet flushing if needed.
- Run faucets for a short time after service is restored to clear any discolored water.
We appreciate your patience, this preventative work reduces the risk of an unplanned, lengthy outage that would affect the entire system.

The Carter Road watermain replacement is part of the Municipality’s proactive program to renew aging water main infrastructure within the Cove Bay distribution system. The existing main along Carter Road has shown signs of deterioration and leaking consistent with its age, and replacement will reduce the risk of main breaks, unplanned service disruptions, and water loss while improving system reliability for residents.
Construction is now underway, with work being sequenced to maintain water service and local access throughout the project; residents along the affected section will be notified, and traffic management measures are in place during construction hours.
The work is being coordinated with the broader Cove Bay Water System improvements , including the recently completed flush intake project and planned treatment plant upgrades , to sequence construction efficiently and minimize disruption to the community.
Once complete, the new main will provide improved flow capacity, pressure stability, and a renewed service life for this section of the main distribution network.
