Bowen Island Municipality is responsible for running its own local election according to the Local Government Act, including voting, counting, reporting results, and accepting candidate nominations.
Elections BC is responsible for administering the campaign financing and election advertising rules in the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.
The B.C. government is responsible for the legislative framework for local elections. In other words, the B.C. government makes the rules, and the local government carries out the election, while Elections BC helps candidates sort out their campaign financing and advertising.
The next General Local Election is on October 17, 2026.
