Register to vote

Are you eligible to vote in the 2026 General Local Election? Is your name on the current list of electors?

Please note that advance registration for Resident and Non-Resident Property Electors closes on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

You can register in advance up to August 25, 2026.  During the period of August 26 to October 16, 2026, advanced registration will not be accepted except in conjunction with mail ballot voting. If you miss the deadline, you can still register on voting days, October 7 and October 17, 2026.

Are you eligible to vote?

In order to be eligible to vote, you must:

• Be 18 years of age or older when you register to vote, or 18 years or older on general voting day
• Be a Canadian citizen
• Have been a resident of B.C. for at least six months immediately before you register to vote (living in B.C. since at least April 16, 2026)
• Be a resident of Bowen Island on the day you register to vote; and
• Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment from voting in local elections or be otherwise disqualified by law

Non-resident property electors (NRPE)

If you live in another jurisdiction in B.C. and have owned property on Bowen Island for at least 30 days before the election (September 17, 2026), you may vote once on Bowen Island – as long as you meet the voter eligibility requirements listed above.

If you own your Bowen Island property with one or more other individuals, only one person is eligible to vote as the non-resident property elector for that property. A majority of the property owners registered on title must consent, in writing, to one elector voting for that property. This is important to know before you vote because we will check who is registered on title to ensure you have the written consent to vote.

You cannot vote on behalf of a corporation, or as a non-resident property elector, based on a property owned wholly or in part by a corporation.

Mail ballot voting

Any eligible elector can apply to vote by mail ballot.

Step 1: Make sure you’re registered to vote.

Step 2: Apply to vote by mail ballot. Application form

Step 3: Get your mail ballot package in late September.

Step 4: Mark your ballots according to the instructions provided.

Step 5: Make sure you return your ballots to the Chief Election Officer as soon as possible, and by the close of voting at 8:00 pm on October 17, 2026.
