The next general local election is on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Bowen Island Municipality is responsible for running its own local election according to the Local Government Act, including voting, counting, reporting results, and accepting candidate nominations.
Elections BC is responsible for administering the campaign financing and election advertising rules in the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.
The B.C. government is responsible for the legislative framework for local elections. In other words, the B.C. government makes the rules, and the local government carries out the election, while Elections BC helps candidates sort out their campaign financing and advertising.
You must be registered before you can vote in the general local election.
We use the province’s most recent electors list as our registered resident electors list. If you’re registered to vote in the next provincial election, you’re automatically registered for the 2026 General Local Election.
You can conveniently register to vote or update your information on the Elections BC website.
You can also register to vote on the day of voting, but we recommend saving time at the polls by registering in advance.
Are you eligible to vote?
In order to be eligible to vote, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older when you register to vote, or 18 years or older on general voting day
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Have been a resident of B.C. for at least six months immediately before you register to vote (living in B.C. since at least April 16, 2026)
- Be a resident of Bowen Island on the day you register to vote; and
- Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment from voting in local elections or be otherwise disqualified by law
Non-resident property electors (NRPE)
If you live off-island and own property on Bowen Island, you may vote once on Bowen Island – as long as you meet the voter eligibility requirements listed above.
If you own your Bowen Island property with one or more other individuals, only one person is eligible to vote as the non-resident property elector for that property. A majority of the property owners registered on title must consent, in writing, to one elector voting for that property. This is important to know before you vote because we will check who is registered on title to ensure you have the written consent to vote.
You cannot vote on behalf of a corporation, or as a non-resident property elector, based on a property owned wholly or in part by a corporation.
Voting dates
Advance voting: Wednesday, October 7, 2026 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm)
