Official Community Plan Update

An Official Community Plan, often known as an OCP, is a local government’s overarching guiding document.

The current OCP was adopted in 2011, through Bylaw No. 282, 2010. It was conducted as an update to the 1996 OCP and as they are typically updated every 10 years or so as communities change, we are due for an update!

Mayor & Council has appointed the OCP Steering Committee to guide the OCP Review, with their initial meeting taking place in April 2024. Based on the Committee’s recommendation, Mayor & Council has hired McElhanney as the consultant team leading the review.

How to Participate:

Phase 1 of public engagement will begin on Thursday May 8, 2025 and run until June 9, 2025 with a mix of in-person and online opportunities.

In Person:

2 In-person engagement events to learn about and provide input on the OCP Update on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the following locations:

10:00 am – 12:00 pm Bowen Island Farmer’s Market 1041 Mount Gardner Road Bowen Island, BC, V0N 1G1

2:00 pm – 6:00 pm Bowen Island Public Library 430 Bowen Island Trunk Road Bowen Island, BC, V0N 1G1

Jane’s Walk will take place on May 22, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome and asked to meet in the square at the Bowen Island Public Library.

Jane’s Walk is a free community led tour to explore local neigbourhoods through the eyes of residents. We welcome all modes of movement as we move together and share stories, discuss urban planning, and engage in dialogue about how the community can be more livable, inclusive, and connected.
