The Province of BC is coordinating a centralized response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bowen Island Municipality is following the direction of the provincial government and public health advice during the COVID-19 pandemic, and will continue to do so. We will continue to share information as we support efforts to slow transmission of COVID-19 and help keep our community healthy.
The following websites are the best source for accurate, up-to-date information about COVID-19 and the pandemic.
The Government of BC COVID Support and Information page is the best source of information about the pandemic for Brotish Columbians, where you can find information about vaccinations, current public health orders, and government supports.
The BC Centre for Disease Control is the best source for COVID-19 health information. Find information about symptoms, testing, how to protect yourself, your family and our community, and what to do if you suspect you have the virus.
Bowen Island is within the Vancouver Coastal Health authority. Here you will find regional information and resources for COVID-19.
WorkSafe BC is where you will find COVID-19 health and safety information to help employers and workers manage risk in the workplace, as well as information for industries returning to operation during Phase 3 of B.C.’s Restart Plan.
BC’s Restart Plan
Step 3: Starts July 1
The criteria for moving to Step 3 is at least 70% of the 18+ population vaccinated with dose 1, along with low case counts and declining COVID-19 hospitalizations. In Step 3, all sectors will transition to using communicable disease prevention guidance from WorkSafeBC.
Mask guidance
Masks are recommended in public indoor settings for all people 12 and older who are not yet fully vaccinated. The mask mandate order under the Emergency Program Act will be lifted July 1 and no proof of vaccination will be needed.

- Some people may choose to continue to wear a mask after they’re fully vaccinated and that’s okay

Current Municipal operations
Every employer is required to have a COVID-19 Safety Plan.
- Municipal Hall is open under enhanced safety protocols, and we encourage everyone to use the many services that are now available online.
- Masks are mandatory at all indoor Municipal facilities.
- Some office staff are working from home, and can still be reached by e-mail or telephone. Please make an appointment if you would like to meet with staff at Municipal Hall.
- Outside workers have altered their work practices to maintain physical distancing. Masks are mandatory.
- Council is continuing to meet to conduct regular business. Council meetings are held virtually on Zoom and are open to the public.
- Capital projects are moving forward.
- Community recreation programs are running under the guidance of public health.
- The Fire Department has strict protocols regarding patient contact.
